We
plan five major fundraising events each year. We also assist with the Young People’s
Concerts. We conduct three WVSL General
meetings, beginning with Fall General Meeting in September.
Information on planned events is
presented in this section of the webpages (people who are planning these events
please submit information to scifinerd@suddenlink.net). See the news link on the home page for news and other
information important to the WVSL.
Let music sail you away on
Symphony Sunday!
What an exciting thought!
Let each of us contemplate how music has moved all of us
with its capricious beats swirling around us while its
building crescendos soar us to never before experienced
horizons... or maybe its the comforting stanzas that
sway us gently home by their oft heard restraints that
leave us with feelings of warmth and contentment that
mean the most to us. We as a league need to reflect on
what thrilling power music plays in all its aspects of
our lives and try to pass the wonder and love we feel
for our symphony orchestra on to those attending the
26th annual Symphony Sunday. The first Sunday in June
begins this year with a balloon extravaganza. The
release of 30 specially chosen messages from area grade
schools with return school addresses under the direction
of Paul Helfrich is a novel start to this years theme.
We sail on next to new vistas where adults and children
can experience free events and listen to the days
wonderful music while eating the superb food provided by
Helen Lodge's concessions. There will be a "Hats off to
the Symphony" exhibit of many unusual or beautiful hats
worn over the years by special members of our community
and our league. This event will be chaired by Penny
Fioravante and Diane Luensmann. There will
be a wine tasting at 2-4 PM on the main patio this year.
We want every league member to help and participate with
Sheila Neil and Teresa Figueroa (our 2008 Symphony
Sunday Chairs) as they come up with many more grand
ideas for this year's Symphony Sunday. It belongs to all
of us.
