The West Virginia Symphony
League's 47th Fashion Show on Monday, October 15, 2007 at 7:30 pm at the Clay
Center was again a wonderful event! Fashions were presented by Schwabe-May and Kelley's Men's Shop,
with Yarid's shoes and accessories the highlights of the evening.
A champagne and chocolate reception followed the show. We all had a
wonderful time. Highlights of the fashion show may be seen online:

WVSO
Opening Night
The
Opening night of the WVSO was
wonderful, as was Copeland's Appalachian Spring, Kodaly's Dances of Galanta, and Tchaikovsky's Symphony #6 (Pathetique)
on October 12 and 13. The Family Discovery Concert on October
13, plus the Instrument Petting Zoo and children's activities were fun for
all ages. The next WVSO concert will be on November 9 and 10.
Featured will be Bernstein's West Side Story Symphonic Dances, Ralph Vaughan
Williams' Serenade to Music, and Rimsky-Korsakov's Scherazade.
The
Symphony Ball will be held on November 30, 2007 at the Marriott Hotel at
6:30 PM.
The Fall General Meeting
was held at the Governor's Mansion on Wednesday,
May 12, 2007, at 10:00 am (see
pictures). Beth Ann Surber and the new Executive
Committee did a wonderful job of conducting our first meeting of the year,
and the plans for the year sound wonderful! Eight fundraising
activities
are planned for the year, including the Fashion Show at the Clay Center, the
Ball in early December at the Marriott (organized by Missy Rubin and Janet
Victorson), a Teddy Bear Tea at the Marriott, the Winter Event (Kroger
Cards), Candy sales, Melonious®
merchandise sales, the Golf Tournament and
Symphony Sunday (June 1, 2008). Dates and times for these events are
listed on the Events Calendar. Helen Lodge and Sallie McClaugherty
will lead the Fall Fashion Show as the first event, where we will get
fashion advice in addition to the actual show. The WVSO performances are now listed on the WVSO
website (www.wvsymphony.org), but we
will add these to our events calendar soon.
Please send in your dues immediately if you have not (and list your
committees). A few long-time loyal members have not! We want you, and
since we still are proofing the Roster, there is still just barely time to
list you! An updated Events Calendar will be posted this week with
times and details of fundraising events. The Roster is being corrected prior to printing and distribution.
Those wanting to assist with proofreading the Roster, please email Yolanda
Tam at yltam@suddenlink.net.
Pictures from the Fall meeting will be posted tonight. Check the pictures tab above for pictures from the Spring event at the Governor's Mansion, where Beth Ann Surber was elected and officially installed as
President.
