President Beckett called the meeting to

SECRETARY’S REPORT
- Yolanda L Tam, Secretary
Secretary Tam was absent due to illness.
Kathy Beckett presented the minutes from the May 10th and May 17th
Executive and Board of Directors meetings. Due to the lack of a quorum,
Kathy requested the minutes be circulated via e-mail to those who were not
in attendance. Provided three additional members voted to approve, the
minutes would be accepted as written.
TREASURER’S REPORT

Erin Brewster, Treasurer
Treasurer Brewster was absent due to
work. Kathy Beckett presented the Final 2005 - 2006 Treasurer’s Report. A
copy is attached. The Treasurer proposed that a check for $5,000 be
prepared for Janice Lessley to present to the WVSO Board at the September
meeting. President Kathy has indicated that the checkbook will be moved to
Sheila Ashley. She will retain checks for emergency purposes only. Each
committee will have a Financial Coordinator who is responsible for all
deposits and invoices for that committee. New procedures are being
formalized and will be presented .
PRESIDENT’S REPORT
- Kathy Beckett, President
President Beckett proposed that e-mail
voting be acceptable. She has also requested a rewrite of all the bylaws.
The Bylaws Committee consists of Marge Entsminger, Mala Bumgarner, Kelly L.
George, Maxie Foster, Kathy, and Beth Ann Surber.
Kathy announced the Fall General Meeting
will be September 12th at The Marriott. Invitations have been
mailed. Please contact JoEllen Zacks or Sara Walker to RSVP. Finger
sandwiches and assorted pastries will be served. The Marriott is helping
underwrite the event. Patti Carnemolla will be honored with the
Distinguished Service Award.
Beckett also provided a copy of the 2006 –
2007 Proposed Budget. The Budget Committee questioned telephone charges,
included in the Office Charge expense. Paul Helfrich is checking to see if
we may remove the phone from the league office. Kathy also asked that
individuals ask her to make copies rather than make them at The Clay Center,
except in the case of emergencies to further reduce our expenses.
Jackson Kelly is assuming the total cost
for printing the Roster. The format has been changed to spiral-bound, 8-1/2
x 11, using Word, to facilitate future changes. Sallie McClaugherty
requested that everyone receive a copy of the Roster.
President Beckett mentioned there is an
issue with membership and season tickets. She proposes that a table be
set-up at next week’s Annual Meeting to ask individuals to sign-up for the
Roster and indicate that they want to purchase season tickets. Paul offered
to have Marsha Graves call those individuals with information about what
seats are available for their selection.
Janice Lessley presented to Kathy the
insert from the previous Sunday’s Arts insert in the Charleston Newspaper
that mentioned the Ball.
President Beckett indicated that there
will be a Steering Committee for the 25th Symphony Sunday to
present a historical perspective. The committee consists of: Rosalie
Gaziano and Helen Lodge as co-chairs, Sallie McClaugherty, Diane Amores,
Kathy Beckett, Beth Ann Surber, and Shelia Neal, chair of Symphony Sunday
Committee.
Kathy is establishing the Symphony Kid’s
Club. It is designed to provide a 2-1/2 party for the children of parents
who attend the symphony. In surveying potential families, she received
interest from 25. She will work with Teresa Figueroa to develop this
further as an on-going fundraiser. She asked that Teresa involve Kathy’s
mother in planning a “Teddy Bear Tea Party”. JoEllen Zacks mentioned that
in
Chicago
this type of event is a huge success.
Valerie Ellis, Membership Co-chair, will
be receiving Membership Forms. Individuals will be sent a cover letter
which will serve as the Invitation as well as the league brochure and a dues
statement.
JoEllen Zacks mentioned that she will need
a head count by Monday, September 11, to notify The Marriott of how many to
expect at the Fall Meeting.

COMMUNITY SERVICES REPORT
- Jarve Currence
In Jarve’s absence, President Beckett
presented the WVSL Calendar, which included the three scheduled Young
People’s Concerts for the up-coming season. The three will be coordinated
by Linda Jernigan and Laura Lee Albert.

FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE REPORT - Melissa Kaye Marland
In Melissa’s absence, individuals updated
those present as follows:

Show Sallie McClaugherty, Helen Lodge
Sallie McClaugherty announced that the
event will be Monday, October 30, at The Clay Center. There will be a skit,
“I Only Get Older when I’m Standing”. Tickets will be $50, which will
include a pre-show cocktail party. One chit will be provided per ticket.
Following the show,
Champagne
and strawberries will be served. Embassy Suites will be providing the
food.
Symphony
Ball Teresa Figueroa, Patti Carnemolla
Teresa Figueroa announced the event will
be December 1, at The Marriott. The theme is “A Winter Wonderland and The
Nutcracker”. Tickets will be $150 per person, with a goal of having a
profit of $80 per.
Champagne will be served while pictures are taken with the sleigh
downstairs, then individuals will move upstairs to the ballroom. Kim Pauley
will be working with us for a ballet performance. Two furs and a modern fur
vest will be auctioned. Kathy Beckett will find out the name of
photographer for the ball last year.
Winter
Event Kelly L George, Patti Carnemolla
President Beckett stated that we will
continue with the Kroger cards. She mentioned that Holz Elementary made
$10,000, with parents using the cards.
Golf
Tournament Dee Rumbaugh, Diane Lundsman
Beth Ann Surber indicated the date of the
event per
Dee is
April 30, 2007, at Edgewood Golf Course. Teresa Figeuroa mentioned that Dee
Rumbaugh was able to negotiate the same charges with Edgewood.
Symphony Sunday
2007 Shelia Neal, Rosalie Gaziano, Helen Lodge
Rosalie Gaziano is hosting a party at her
house on September 19.
Merchandise Linda Jernigan, Shelia Neal, Kim Dobbs
Kathy Beckett mentioned that she saw three
Melonious ties at the Greenbrier while there for a conference.
