
Opening comments and President’s Report
Kathy Beckett, President, welcomed seventy-six members and guests to the Spring General Meeting at 10 a.m. Following a social gathering, sincere appreciation was extended to Hospitality co-chairs, Sara Walker and JoEllen Zacks, and their committee.

Presentation of WVSL minutes
Secretary Yolanda Tam presented the minutes from the Winter General meeting. Copies of the minutes were available at the welcome table and on the Symphony League website www.wvsl.org. Secretary Tam asked if there were no corrections or questions, for a motion to approve the minutes. Sallie McClaugherty motioned. Linda Jernigan seconded. The motion carried.
WVSL Distinguished Service Award
Helen Lodge presented Bessie Lively with the WVSL Distinguished Service Award for her decades of support and hosting of League meetings in her various homes.
Election and Installation of Officers
The proposed slate of officers for the 2007-2008 year were elected and installed. The following members begin their year of service to the League on July 1, 2007:

WVSL Committee Reports
Symphony Sunday: The 25th Silver Anniversary of Symphony Sunday will be held on June 3, 2007. Rosalie Gaziano and Helen Lodge are co-chairs for the Silver Celebration.
Teresa Figueroa reported that Symphony Sunday will recreate ten events from the past twenty five years, and that the four events requiring tickets would be:
Jazz Brunch
Fashion Show with International Dancing
Wine Tasting with Lecture on Italian Wines
British Tea in the Byrd Gallery
Food/Concessions: Helen Lodge made the following announcements.
o Rib Roast will occur from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
o Jackson Kelly and Arnett & Foster will have lemonade stands.
o The Cake Walk will replace the Bake Shop – members may donate three cakes or $15.
o Kelly George is in charge of the pie contest.
Silver Anniversary Dinner: Co-chair Gaziano shared plans for the silver dinner to begin the weekend, noting that favorite meals are composed of food, ambiance, sight and smell. The evening will begin with cocktails and progress to dinner served on silver trays, with a focus on “elegant food for an elegant evening.” Invitations are just coming out.
Prudence Majestro shared memories of the start of Symphony Sunday twenty-five years ago.
Report from the WV Symphony Orchestra
Paul Helfrich, Executive Director, and extended his greetings and thanks to the League members for their support throughout the year. He then recognized President Kathy Beckett for her leadership in the League.
Maestro Grant Cooper noted the uniqueness of Symphony Sunday to Charleston as an event that belongs to the city and is truly incredible; concert attendance based on population exceeds that of the New York Philharmonic. He thanked Executive Director Helfrich, calling the sale of tickets for Carmen a “landmark day in the history of the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra.”
Other announcements were as follows:
Kathy Beckett encouraged those interested in helping with chocolate sales to see Sallie McClaugherty. Patti Carnemolla encouraged members to see her for Kroger cards.
With no further business to come before the league, President Beckett adjourned the meeting at 11 a.m.
