Executive and Board of Directors Meeting

CALL TO ORDER -   Kathy Beckett, President 

President Beckett called the meeting to order at 10:38 a.m.

SECRETARY’S REPORT   -   Yolanda L Tam, Secretary

Secretary Tam reported the September minutes are tabled and will be presented at the next board meeting.

 

TREASURER’S REPORT   -   Erin Brewster, Treasurer

President Beckett reported in order to maintain proper accounting, Sheila Ashley at the WVSO Office will maintain records.  All deposits when available need to be forwarded to Sheila whereby deposits are made daily.  A current ledger and balance sheet was distributed to the board.  The report is tabled until the next board meeting.

 

PRESIDENT’S REPORT   -   Kathy Beckett, President

President Beckett reported the 2006-2007 WVSL Roster has been mailed to all the members.  Please contact Kathy if there are corrections.  The WVSL Executive Committee will have a strategic planning meeting with Paul Helfrich to discuss a five year plan. 

 

VP FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE REPORT   -   Melissa Kaye Marland

            Fundraising Committees

                        Fashion Show                           Helen Lodge, Sallie McClaugherty

Dee Rumbaugh reported she will be the contact person for the scheduling of ticket sales inside the Schwabe’s store.  Please contact Dee if you are able to help a morning or afternoon.  The 27th Symphony in Fashion show will be October 30th at the Clay Center with cocktails and hordeuvres at 6:00 p.m., a Musical farce at intermission, and champagne and chocolates will be served after the show.  Tickets ($50 each) were mailed to all members to assist in the promotion.

                        Symphony Ball              Teresa Figueroa, Patti Carnemolla

President Beckett reported the committee will meet on October 24th.  Currently, sponsorships are being secured, coordination efforts continue with the Charleston Marriott, and Dee Rumbaugh is securing wine for the event.  A new event this year will be held the Sunday after the Ball.  A Teddy Bear Tea has been organized by Teresa Figueroa.  The tea will feature the WVSO and members of the Charleston Ballet portraying The Nutcracker.  The event is limited to 100 children and adults.  The tea will be December 3rd from 2:00 pm- 3:30pm at the Charleston Marriott.  The event is limited to 100 children and adults.  Please call 342-6541 for reservations.

President Beckett reminded everyone to use the Kroger cards and add to them for reuse.  A local Elementary raises $10,000.00 a year with this project.  It is an easy and convenient way to raise funds for the League.  Cards are available for you and as gifts.  Please contact Kelly George.

                        Golf Tournament                        Dee Rumbaugh, Diane Luensman

Dee Rumbaugh reported United Bank has already committed as a sponsor.  The committee is currently working on securing sponsorships with new member and Co-Chair Diane Luensmann.

                        Symphony Sunday 2006            Shelia Neal, Rosalie Gaziano, Diana Amores

Shelia Neal reported via email a very productive committee meeting was held at the home Rosalie Gaziano.  This year will highlight the 25th Silver anniversary of Symphony Sunday and the history.

The committee will meet in January.  Symphony Sunday will be June 2nd -3rd  2007 and will again showcase our magnificent West Virginia Symphony Orchestra.  The event will need the involvement of all members.  Please contact Shelia Neal.

                                Merchandise                             Linda Jernigan, Shelia Neal, Kim Dobbs

Linda Jernigan reported in addition to the solid gold and sterling silver Melonius charms, another has been created- a stunning charm in color.  Each is handmade and available at Petit Jewelry.  Melonius neckties by Vineyard Vines are among the items available.  Kelly’s Mens shop, Taylor Books, and the Clay Center gift shop are among the places to find the merchandise.  The committee continues to work on the creation and marketing of the merchandise, as well as the ability for Melonius items to be marketed by other Symphonies.  Melonius is going to be universally known.  Please be an advocate for the Melonius merchandise.

President Beckett reported the By-Laws committee will be meeting to review the current policies.

            Newsletter SCORE                                editor needed

President Beckett circulated the October issue of The ScoreThe Score will be available via email for members’ convenience and for cost-effectiveness of printing and postage.
