Founded in 1942, the WVSL inspires community support for the Symphony through a wide range of innovative fundraising events, educational programs and hands-on projects.  The League is one of the largest single sources of financial support for the WVSO.   Our 150+ volunteer members come from all sectors of the community.  Membership is open to all who share our commitment to enriching and elevating our state through the finest symphonic music.

Over the years, the Women’s Committee continued to take on new projects and events, many of which continue to this day, including a formal ball in 1956, fashion show in 1958.  The Women's Committee joined the American Symphony Orchestra League in 1960, winning numerous awards in the following years for various projects including Symphony Sunday, a weekend of special events and family activities culminating in a free community performance at the University of Charleston.  Later this year, the League’s “Dancing with the Stars” event will be honored as one of the most successful fundraising events in the country by the National league of Orchestras.

The League is now one of the largest single sources of financial support for the WVSO.  The WVSL presents a wide range of distinctive special events and projects, including the elegant Symphony Gala, charming Children’s Tea, sporty “Swinging with the Symphony” golf outing and  the sophisticated Fashion After Five fashion show, to benefit the Symphony.

Although the WVSO generates a portion of its income from ticket sales and other earned revenue, more than half of its income is generated through foundation, corporate and individual contributions. Special fundraising events presented by the WVSL provide additional essential support.  All together, this funding enables the Orchestra to provide the highest caliber performances at affordable prices to West Virginians throughout the state.

We invite you to join this inspiring, innovative and inclusive group of volunteers amplifying the reach of the WVSO through their contributions of time, talents and treasure.  No matter your background or interests, there’s a place for you to get involved and make a difference.  The rewards you will enjoy – new friendships and connections, developing new skills and the satisfaction of contributing to our state’s leading cultural asset – will last a lifetime.
