Spring General Membership MeetingWednesday, May 20th 2009 – NoonBerry Hills Country Club Charleston, WVCALL TO ORDER - Yolanda L. Tam, President called the meeting to order at 12:15pm. SECRETARY’S REPORT - Emily S. Hopta, Secretary Secretary Hopta was absent, minutes for this meeting were taken by Treasurer Powell. Patti Carnemolla motioned to approve the April minutes, Dee Rumbaugh seconded and the motion was approved. TREASURER’S REPORT - Jane E. Powell, Treasurer PRESIDENT’S REPORT - Yolanda L. Tam, President President Tam welcomed guests, Pat Bond, Kathy Bush, David Gross, and President Tam’s husband, Bert Fredeking. Special thanks to JoEllen Zacks and Sara Walker of the Hospitality committee for arranging today’s luncheon. President Tam thanked Pat Bond as the outgoing President of the WVSO Board of Directors for his years of service and dedication. She also thanked Kathy Bush and wished her well on behalf of the League as she concludes as the WVSO Development Director. President Tam also announced that the WVSL has met the pledge of $75,000.00 with a pledge of $80,000. The Board recently approved an additional $20,000 for a total of $100,000 for the year. She also highlighted 2008-09 events, saying it was an honor to serve as President. In the current economy the funds raised for the WVSO spoke volumes of the women of the League. In closing, President Tam also thanked her husband for his support. President Tam formally introduced Executive Director Gross. David remarked he and his family look forward to the move to WV and thanked the League for their support for the WVSO and in making he and his family feel welcome. VP COMMUNITY SERVICE/PUBLIC RELATIONS REPORT- JoEllen B. Zacks JoEllen expressed a special thanks to all the volunteers for the events. Bloch Fundraising Committees April 17th Dancing with the Stars Patti Carnemolla, Iris Riggs Patti reported on the success of the event and the time and work the instructors and students put into it. There are CD’s for sale of the evening. Apr. 27th Golf Tournament Dee Rumbaugh, Evie McPherson, Ann Vincent Urling Dee reported on the success of the event and acknowledged the chairs and League volunteers. Many of the volunteers who make the event possible are friends of the League. Dee introduced Evie McPherson who will assume the Chair for the 2010 Golf Tournament. June 5-7 Symphony Sunday Shelia Neal, Teresa Figueroa, Liz Stevens Shelia, Teresa, and Liz reported on the upcoming events from Friday through Sunday and the importance of volunteers in making this event possible for the community. Helen Lodge reported on the food concessions and the many offerings that will be available Sunday into the evening. Oct. 23rd Symphony Gala Teresa Figueroa, Shelia Neal, Belle Manjong Dr. Dan Foster has been named as the honoree. Dr. Foster, a Senator and incoming Board President of the WVSO, was instrumental in the successful endowment campaign. OTHER COMMITTEE REPORTS Cello Endowment Helen Lodge Parliamentarian Janice Lessley Distinguished Service Award Iris Riggs, Phyllis Sherman Membership Roster Shelia Neal, Jane Powell Nominating Committee Beth Ann Surber Beth Ann Surber announced the new slate of Officers for 2009-10. President Shelia Neal, President-Elect JoEllen Zacks, VP Communication Madhu Chaturvedi, VP Fund Raising Beth Bloch, Secretary Helen Epps, and Treasurer Ruth Joseck. The slate was approved. Each of the outgoing Executive Committee was given a long stem red rose. Janice Lessley led the installation of the new officers. Sheila Neal gave remarks about the excitement of beginning her term.
