I am very excited for my first full season as President of the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra. So many members of the WVSL have gone to great lengths to welcome my wife Debbie and me to the community and this great organization. As the orchestra begins our 70th season we reflect on so many great accomplishments. First and foremost the consistently high standards our great musicians perform at under the outstanding leadership of Maestro Grant Cooper, the successful completion of an 8 million dollar endowment and recapitalization campaign, and the privilege of performing in a world class concert hall. Another accomplishment is the ability and resiliency of the West Virginia Symphony to continue to present concerts of the highest quality while facing the most challenging economic climate this country has seen in 70 years.

As we look forward we will build on these achievements by reaching out to more citizens in West Virginia and continue to offer diverse programs that challenge, educate and entertain audiences.

Without the tireless support of the West Virginia Symphony League our past achievements wouldn’t have been possible and our future success not nearly as bright. When I came to Charleston I was moved by the commitment this community has for its arts organizations and it is obvious that the League is a leader in that commitment.

I am looking ahead to this season which is filled with some of the greatest orchestral music, concluding with Beethoven’s 9th Symphony. Our Pops will entertain with such concerts as A Night on Broadway, Irish Delight, Sousa at the Symphony, and of course Home for the Holidays. Our education programs continue to touch thousands of young people’s lives. All this would not be possible without the WVSL.

On behalf of the Board, Staff, and Musicians I want to thank all of the League members for their dedication to the WVSO and wish you all nothing but success for this season and beyond.
